If you think Indonesia’s education system is going to stay the same, you might want to hear this news. In May 2025, a major step was taken by a prominent national figure — Amien Rais — someone we usually hear about in the political arena. But this time, he’s making waves in the tech world with the establishment of the Artificial Intelligence Polytechnic.

Yes, you read that right. A dedicated AI polytechnic has officially been founded and is already accepting new students! Its official name is Politeknik Artificial Intelligence Amien Rais, and this year, they’re ready to accommodate up to 300 students from all over Indonesia. This isn’t just another educational institution — it could mark the beginning of a serious, homegrown AI ecosystem.

Why Is This Important?

Until now, AI in Indonesia has mostly been a topic for seminars or discussed only in theory. Meanwhile, countries like China, the United States, and even India have made significant progress in applying AI across various sectors — from agriculture and education to cybersecurity.

With this polytechnic, the hope is that Indonesia can start producing local talents who are ready to compete on a global scale. The curriculum reportedly focuses on machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing (NLP), robotics, and also ethics in AI development — something often overlooked, yet critically important.

Not Just Theory — It’s Hands-On!

What’s interesting is that, according to the institution’s management, the AI Polytechnic won’t just focus on theory but will emphasize practical experience. Students will get involved in real-world projects, including collaborations with local tech industries. There are already plans to partner with startups and state-owned enterprises (BUMN) developing AI-based solutions.

The campus also features advanced facilities like an AI Lab, robotics workshop, and Industry 4.0 simulation rooms. Other universities might feel a bit jealous if they don’t catch up soon!

A Bold Mission

Amien Rais stated that the founding of this polytechnic is a tangible step toward national independence in the tech sector. He wants Indonesia’s youth to be more than just consumers of foreign technology — he wants them to become creators of technology themselves. This vision aligns with the government’s push for national digital transformation.

A Potential Inspiration for Other Campuses

Hopefully, this initiative will inspire other educational institutions to innovate as well. We can’t keep relying on outdated curricula that no longer align with current demands. Today’s job market requires tech-savvy, job-ready talent — especially in AI, which is increasingly permeating every aspect of life.
